SiteGround Hosting Review 2019

SiteGround came under the radar of Money Success Guide for the first time in 2013.

We had a window for Interviewing SiteGround CEO, Tenko Nikolov and a free hosting account to test.

Today we host our sites, at SiteGround-Hosting.

Over the years, I’ve collected a wealth of useful information about SiteGround, including records of SiteGround shared hosting uptime, latency testing from various countries (UK, Malaysia and Singapore), user feedback from social media groups and forums, and chat recordings with SiteGround live chat support.

If you are thinking about SiteGround web hosting, this review should be helpful

Advantages Of SiteGround Hosting

Extremely Reliable – 100% Host Uptime At Most Times

I can’t stress enough how important it is that a hosting provider is always reliable because downtime on your site can have a serious impact on your overall ROI. That’s why I was impressed with SiteGround’s performance as it is able to maintain 100% uptime during my trial period.

Your uptime performance has always been impressive as data from 2014 showing SiteGround consistently achieves an uptime of at least 99.99%. Basically, it is unlikely that you will experience downtime on SiteGround soon.

Free Site Migration For GrowBig And GoGeek Users

Do you think migrating your websites is too tedious or too difficult?

SiteGround offers the perfect solution for non-technical or lazy website owners.

With any new GrowBig or GoGeek hosting account in SiteGround, you get a free professional website transfer. The SiteGround support team will help you transfer your website to your SiteGround server. Users of the StartUp plan are required to pay for the transfer service ($30 for each site transfer).

How to request a free site migration from SiteGround?
The following video shows how a site transfer is requested.

Alternatively, there is a DIY migration option for WordPress users – SiteGround Migrator. It is a special plugin designed to automate the transfer (after you have installed and entered the required details) of a WordPress site to your SiteGround hosting account.

Selection Of Server Locations On Three Continents (Reduce Latency!)

As with all things in our world, data transmission is limited by physical limitations.

If your site is hosted closer to your users, it will load faster (because the data and user requests travel shorter distances).

A faster website load time equals a better user experience. A better user experience is often comparable to higher online customer conversions.

It is therefore important to host your website close to your users.

With SiteGround, users have a choice of six server locations to log in to:

  • Chicago and Iowa, USA
  • London, United Kingdom
  • Amsterdam and Eemshaven, Netherlands
  • Singapore.

This allows users to host their website close to their target audience.

We have conducted some latency tests in the UK. Based on our test results, SiteGround is best suited for websites that are targeted to people living in these regions.

Let’s Encrypt The SSL Support: Install Free SSL With A Few Clicks

Security is essential for a website, as it not only protects against hackers and malware, but also tells your users that their data on your website is safe.

SiteGround offers free Let’s Encrypt and Wild Card SSL when you sign up with their web hosting services. Installing on one of your domain names is surprisingly easy.

Standard Let’s Encrypt SSL is free for all hosting accounts and is automatically installed with SiteGround for all domains. Log in to cPanel> Security> SSL / TLS Manager> Certificates (CRT) to check your free standard for SSL certificate encryption at SiteGround.

Let us encrypt the wildcard SSL support.

From March 29, 2018, all SiteGround customers will be able to receive a free Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL Certificate, which greatly simplifies subdomain setup.

To install Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL, log on to cPanel> Security> Let’s Encrypt.

Standard Let us encrypt SSL against WildCard SSL.

The default FOC Let’s Encrypt SSL requires users to install a separate domain certificate for each subdomain.

Wildcard allows you to secure them with a single certificate.

Click on “Get Wildcard” to activate your free “Let’s Encrypt Wildcard SSL” at SiteGround.

Private SSL (Premium EV SSL) at SiteGround – Purchase & Installation.

SiteGround also offers Premium EV and Wildcard SSL Certificates through GlobalSign for users who need them. To purchase your private SSL simply sign in and go to “Add Services” (see picture).

Very Positive Feedback From Other SiteGround Users

A search on the Internet shows that many users have had positive experiences with SiteGround as a host. As customer satisfaction improves every year, SiteGround has taken steps to ensure that users are treated well.

SiteGround was voted Favourite “WordPress Hosting” in the Facebook Closed Group.

Over 97% customer satisfaction rate in 2017 & 2018.

SiteGround’s annual customer satisfaction survey was published in January each year.

In 2017, 97.3% of respondents were satisfied with the SiteGround service. 95% would recommend the web host to a friend.

In 2018, 98% of respondents were satisfied with the SiteGround service.

You can read the official survey report here (2018) and help us increase our impact.

Great Customer Support

SiteGround charges a price for its hosting services. If you compare SiteGround with other hosting providers you can see that they charge 80 – 200% above the market price.

However, most SiteGround users choose to stay with them for the long term. Why?

I think customer care is one of the main reasons. It’s always easy to get help from SiteGround – via live chat, email, phone or the knowledge base and tutorials on 4,500 pages.

SiteGround offers the best live chat support.

I used to do a survey and talked to 28 hosting companies about their live chat system. SiteGround proved to be the best in terms of waiting time and my personal satisfaction.

My live chat request at SiteGround was answered in 30 seconds and my problems were solved within minutes.

How to reach SiteGround Support.

In 2018, there was a short time when you could no longer use live chat to solve your technical or billing problems with SiteGround. This will no longer be the case in 2019.

To chat with the support team, simply log in to your SiteGround dashboard.> Support> Request support from our team> Contact> Select your problem> Publish to chat. Note that in some cases the system will redirect you to your knowledge base instead.

Disadvantages Of SiteGround Hosting

Mixed Results In Our Server Speed Test

The results for the SiteGround speed were a bit mixed in my test. The use of Bitcatcha, SiteGround network and servers has developed well in regions like the US or Europe, but in areas like Singapore or Japan this was not so good.

The test results on the website were not so good that TTFB (Time-To-First-Byte) was a miserable 1.735ms in the Singapore data center and 759ms in the Chicago data center.

Uptime Warranty Does Not Cover DDoS Failures

When using SiteGround, please note that you must pay attention to the details in your Service Level Agreement (SLA) when guaranteeing availability. In many cases, uptime guarantees for web hosts avoid some aspects such as natural disasters, etc.

SiteGround, on the other hand, goes a little further by not allowing downtime due to Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, hacker attacks and other similar events. This is not very common and asks me how little trust the company has in its network.

It is true that DDoS attacks are very difficult for many companies (especially smaller ones). That’s why they often work with large content delivery networks like Cloudflare to mitigate the problem.
The inclusion of this is that their SLA is somewhat disturbing.

In fact, SiteGround does not cover emergency maintenance and neither hardware nor software bugs that are fixed within an hour. The addition of this clause is just mean to them, to be honest.

Hosting Price Rises Dramatically (!) After The First Bill

While the prices for the registration at SiteGround are quite attractive, the regular prices for the hosting plans are taken over again after the first invoice.

For this reason, SiteGround may not be the best choice for users on a tight budget. However, it should be noted that for most budget hosting providers it is not uncommon to increase the price for renewals or after the first bill.

SiteGround shared hosting plans, namely Startup, GrowBig and GoGeek; cost $9.95, $17.95, $29.95 per month at renewal.

Alternatives – The price for the joint hosting of Interserver is set at 5 USD / month for life. For those looking for a long-term affordable hosting service.

SiteGround Head-To-Head Comparison With Others

Customers often compare SiteGround to Hostgator and InMotion Hosting because their hosting plans are very similar.

Data from Google Trends shows that Hostgator is the most popular brand among the three. In second place, SiteGround has the most regional interests in Russia and Italy. InMotion hosting, placed third, are popular in North America and India.

Features and prices – SiteGround has the highest cost (especially during renewal), but offers some advanced hosting features (customized cache, NGINX, HTTP / 2, integrated WordPress cache, etc.), which the other two do not offer. We will continue to compare their features and prices in the following tables.

The Control Panel allows you to check if your website is using excessive server resources.

If you exceed the bandwidth, your service will be restricted and an additional fee will be charged.

Should You Host At SiteGround Hosting?

Is SiteGround one of the best hosting providers today? It’s hard to say because everything depends on what you need for your website.

I think that SiteGround is ideal for those who are looking for a first class and reliable hosting service that is reasonably priced and offers very good customer support.

The biggest drawback is that the renewal price of Siteground is more expensive and can be considered a rip-off. If you don’t mind paying extra for premium services, SiteGround is definitely a good choice.
